Ottawa, ON – Larus Technologies announced that its solution to further develop and enhance its AI-driven technology for Multi-Domain Operations rapid decision making for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), developed in partnership with Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division, was accepted and awarded through the Department of National Defence’s (DND) Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program for completion in 2023.
The project “Data Analytics for Real-Time Multi-domain Operational DEcision-making” solution, or DARTMODE for short, was chosen to provide Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) capabilities for the application of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO). DARTMODE uses the Larus developed solution for the identification of the decision objectives and the selection of relevant data sources which form the decision support network, visualized to decision makers through Hexagon’s LuciadRIA and LuciadFusion platforms.
“Our solution will address the fact that in-service C4ISR systems are siloed and do not allow for automated intelligence data fusion techniques, which results in excessive human cognitive load and time to move through the decision cycle.” said Dr. Rami Abielmona, Larus’ Vice-President of Research & Engineering. “Working with Hexagon, our DARTMODE solution will build synergies and redundancies in systems where any node with the appropriate authorities can leverage any sensor and any operational capability in near-real time.”
This solution will learn patterns of interest and leverage them to survey data ingested and provide prompts when these same patterns re-occur allowing for plausible courses of actions to reduce cognitive load and time to disseminate actionable intelligence to decision makers. This will be of benefit to the CAF in operational applications such as intelligence assessments of cross-border smuggling, tracking and identifying of amphibious insertions, cross-border incursions, and mitigation against cyber effects seeking to disinform and confuse allied intelligence services.
“C4ISR systems are often siloed and lack the automated intelligence required by soldiers,” said Bruce Chaplin, vice president of sales and business development, Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division. “Leveraging our proven Luciad platform, DARTMODE will effectively analyze and visualize data in 2D and 3D formats in real-time for rapid decision-making.”
Larus Technologies will lead the project and provide its innovative AI/ML products (the Total::Insight™ Decision Support System and the Total::Perception™ Systems Simulation Engine). The outcomes of DARTMODE are of value to the CAF, as it will improve the current analytical capacity and efficiency of intelligence analysts, augment the user with real-time and retroactive analytics, and create economies of action so users may work on simultaneous targets of opportunity without reducing consistency/accuracy of intelligence assessments. DARTMODE would afford various end-user and organizational business benefits such as reduced cognitive load, more effective processing, and support more agile CAF operations in a field where qualified resources are already strained, and recruiting shortfalls limit operational capacity.
