Ottawa, ON – Larus Technologies, announced that, along with its partner Kongsberg Geospatial, its solution to further develop and enhance its AI-driven technology for Adversarial Behaviour Modeling for intelligence analysis for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) was accepted and awarded through the Department of National Defence’s (DND) Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program for completion in 2023.
The project “Multi-Domain Adversarial Behaviour Modeling using Retroactive (Big Data) Analytics and ABI” solution, or MAABI for short, was chosen to provide Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) capabilities for the application of Activity-Based Intelligence (ABI). MAABI uses the Larus developed retroactive analytics technology, providing advanced adversarial intent and threat events, through the Kongsberg multi-domain IRIS UxS system to decision makers.
“ABI made operational will help to develop a new generation of intelligence specialists with a greater depth of intelligence/knowledge based on discovery through a data-driven process.” said Dr. Rami Abielmona, Larus’ Vice-President of Research & Engineering. “Working with Kongsberg Geospatial, we have found world-leading global partners who have the domain expertise and knowledge to guide our AI/ML-based successes. Our AI-based solution provides great impact for the CAF in its ability to derive timely and predictive insights from large datasets as well as to detect patterns-of-life and infer activities of interest through opportunistic collection.”
The end goal of the project will be a comprehensive solution – relevant to the broader Joint Force and there environments therein – which includes a unique and advanced retroactive capability applicable to a modern operational military context processing a wide variety of data to aid CAF personnel in gaining tactical and intelligence advantages over its adversaries.
“We’re proud to be part of the critical evolution of machine learning”, said Jordan Freed, President, Kongsberg Geospatial. “Our battlespace visualization systems draw on our technical legacy with NATO projects to create a world leading capability to exploit ISR data and will help users effectively exploit historical ISR data.”
Larus Technologies will lead the project and provide its innovative AI/ML products: the Total::Insight™ Decision Support System that provides adaptive behavioral learning capabilities to “learn” any normal Pattern of Life (POL) for any area in the world; and perform real-time detection of objects and people using High-Level Information Fusion (HLIF), and the Total::Perception™ Systems Simulation Engine that provides an AI-based optimization framework for resource tasking, data collection and management operations. Total::Perception™ increases the speed and efficiency needed to meet fast-paced dynamic intelligence requirements and indicates where and when to position, cue and tip sensors, how best to schedule and manage them and how best to maximize the value of the fusion architecture for current and future mission success.
The combined expert capabilities of the team will provide intelligence personnel an enhanced ability to review intelligence events over a selected time period and detect anomalies, POLs and threats in current events within the integrated solution.
